It’s Anaplasmosis Time
Anaplasmosis is a cyclical disease that outbreaks every five to seven years. Missouri cattle can get it from horse fly bites. For more details about the disease, read this article by Dr. Gerald Buening of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri Extension.
If you see your cattle standing up to their bellies in a pond, that’s a telltale sign that they have a fever and could be an indication of Anaplamosis.
An effective treatment is to give them a shot of ®LA-200 and follow that up by introducing CTC (chlortetracycline) into a 30% salt mix at a rate of 6 pounds of CTC-50 per ton of feed or 30 pounds of CTC-10 per ton. Feed about 2.5 pounds per head per day. You can also use Fescue Equalizer as a free choice mineral or any mineral that contains a good level of CTC.
